Support for Young People
Here at York Mind we offer various types of support for young people. Currently this includes:
1 to 1 Mentoring for people aged 8 to 13
1 to 1 Counselling for people aged 12 to 15
1 to 1 Counselling for people aged 16 to 25
My Mind on a Mural (Art Project) 11 to 16
Active Minds (sport groups) 11 to 16
We also have the Yormind website and ChatChit podcast, designed for young people, created by young people (alongside mental health professionals). On the Yormind website there is a whole host of information on conditions, support, services and of course the podcast Chat Chit. The podcast talks about mental health in a laid back way, covering a variety of topics by talking to people with different experiences. Sometimes it can be really helpful to know you are not alone, that is one of the great things about the Chat Chit podcast.
If your life is at risk right now, this may be feeling like you might attempt suicide or seriously harm yourself, then you need urgent medical help. There are different support options:
- Ring a crisis line and they will be able to talk to you and try to calm you down. Information on what to expect from different crisis lines can be found here.
- Call your local crisis team. The numbers for York are 01904 461133 and 01904 461132. Explain what might be going on and they will try advise you accordingly.
- Call 999 for an ambulance or go straight to A&E if you can.
